Martin is a business consultant who has romantic encounters
Martin’s home office had become his private gallery. The wall behind his desk, once blank and white, now held a growing arrangement of framed silk squares, each one pinned with a small brass label bearing a single initial. The emerald square from Evelyn sat at the center, flanked by Lila’s black lace, Sophia’s burgundy satin, Catherine’s deep violet, and Rosa’s simple black cotton. They hung in a loose arc, catching the afternoon light that slanted through the tall windows. Martin liked to stand in front of them sometimes, fingers brushing the frames, remembering the moments each square represented.
The holiday week stretched long and quiet. No flights, no client dinners, just empty hours and the faint hum of the refrigerator in the next room. Boredom had driven him to scroll through old messages until he found Elena’s number. He hesitated only a moment before typing.
Still think about that park bench sometimes.
Her reply came within minutes.
So do I. Your place or mine?
Martin gave her the address and spent the next hour straightening the office, adjusting the frames on the mural so they hung perfectly level. He poured two glasses of wine and left them on the side table near the leather couch. When the doorbell rang, his pulse quickened.
Elena stood on the porch in a cream trench coat belted at the waist. Her dark hair fell in loose waves past her shoulders, and her smile carried the same teasing spark he remembered from the train. She stepped inside, shrugging out of the coat to reveal a fitted burgundy dress that hugged her curves. The neckline dipped low enough to show the delicate chain resting between her breasts.
"You look good," she said, eyes traveling over his button-down and dark trousers. "Very settled."
Martin took her coat and hung it by the door. "Come see what I’ve been up to."
He led her down the short hallway to the office. Elena paused in the doorway, gaze moving immediately to the wall. She walked closer, studying each framed square. Her fingers hovered near the emerald one without touching it.
"These are… souvenirs?" she asked, voice soft.
"Tokens," Martin corrected. "From women who wanted me to remember."
Elena tilted her head, reading the small brass labels. "E. L. S. C. R." She glanced back at him. "You’ve been busy."
Martin stepped behind her, close enough that she could feel the warmth of his body. "I think about the train ride often. The way you looked at me over your book. The note you left."
Elena turned to face him. Her hand rose to rest on his chest, palm flat over his heart. "I wondered if you kept that black lace I gave you."
He nodded toward the far left of the mural. Elena followed his gaze and smiled when she saw the delicate black square framed in silver. She traced the edge of the frame with one fingertip.
"I like that you display them," she said. "Most men would hide something like this."
Martin caught her hand and brought it to his lips, kissing the inside of her wrist. "I don’t want to hide any of it."
Elena’s eyes darkened. She stepped closer until their bodies nearly touched, then rose on her toes to press her mouth to his. The kiss started slow, exploratory, the way it had on the park bench months ago. Martin’s hands settled on her waist, feeling the smooth fabric of her dress beneath his palms. Elena’s tongue traced his lower lip before she deepened the contact, tasting of mint and something sweeter.
They moved together without speaking, Martin walking her backward until her hips met the edge of his desk. Elena’s fingers worked at his shirt buttons, slipping each one free with deliberate care. She pushed the fabric from his shoulders and ran her hands over his bare chest, nails scraping lightly across his skin.
Martin reached behind her and found the zipper of her dress. He eased it down slowly, letting the fabric part to reveal smooth skin and the black lace bra beneath. Elena shrugged out of the dress, letting it fall to the floor. She stood before him in matching panties and stockings, the chain around her neck glinting in the lamplight.
He lifted her onto the desk. Elena wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him close. Her hands went to his belt, unbuckling it with the same calm confidence she had shown on the train when she slipped the note into his pocket. She freed him from his trousers, stroking slowly, thumb circling the head.
"I’ve thought about this," she whispered against his mouth. "Having you here, where you keep your secrets."
Martin hooked his fingers into the lace of her panties and pulled them aside. Elena guided him to her entrance, and he pushed inside with one smooth thrust. They both gasped at the sudden closeness. Elena’s legs tightened around him, heels pressing into the small of his back.
He moved slowly at first, savoring the tight heat of her around him. Elena’s hands gripped the edge of the desk, her head tilted back as soft sounds escaped her throat. Martin leaned forward and kissed the column of her neck, tasting the faint salt of her skin. His thrusts grew deeper, more deliberate, each one drawing a quiet moan from her lips.
Elena came with a soft cry, forehead pressed to his shoulder, thighs trembling around his hips. Martin followed seconds later, pulsing deep inside her as she held him through it. They stayed joined for a long moment, hearts slowing together.
Eventually Elena lifted herself off the desk and adjusted her panties, though she left them slightly askew. She picked up her dress from the floor and slipped it back on, zipping it halfway. Martin watched her, still catching his breath.
She moved to the mural again, studying the frames with new interest. "Which one was the first?"
Martin pointed to the black lace on the far left. "That one. From the train."
Elena smiled. "And the most recent?"
He indicated the violet square near the center. "Professor Lang. Last week."
Elena turned to him, eyes sparkling. "You really do collect them."
Martin stepped behind her once more, hands resting on her hips. "I like having something to remember each moment by."
Elena leaned back against his chest. "Maybe I should give you another one before I leave."
She reached beneath her dress and slid the black lace panties down her legs, stepping out of them carefully. She folded the delicate fabric and pressed it into his hand.
"For the wall," she said. "So you don’t forget tonight."
Martin kissed her again, slower this time, savoring the taste of her. Elena’s hands slid up his chest to rest on his shoulders, and they stood together in the quiet office, the framed squares watching from the wall like silent witnesses to every secret they had shared.
When she finally pulled away, Elena smoothed her dress and picked up her coat. "Call me again during the next holiday," she said. "I want to see how many more squares you’ve added."
Martin walked her to the door, the black lace still warm in his palm. After she left, he returned to the office and pinned the new square beside the first one, the brass label already waiting. He stood back and studied the growing collection, the afternoon light catching on each frame, each memory preserved in silk.
The holiday week no longer felt empty. It felt like the beginning of something larger, something that would keep growing as long as he kept traveling, kept meeting women who wanted to leave a piece of themselves behind. Martin poured himself another glass of wine and sat at the desk, already wondering who would be next.
