I take your point, of course; but I am English and I write as an Englishman and when I do this I'm not really trying to educate the rest of humanity in the particular way we use the language here. The differences between our version and other country's versions (specially the US) are a constant source of interest to me. However, when someone asks me exactly what I have meant by expressing something in a particular way, then I see it as an opportunity to bridge the gap between our two cultures. Neither of us is any more right than the other! |
